About Nick Coons

Short Bio

Nick Coons is a native born Phoenician and has lived in the valley of the sun his entire life.  He's been married to his wife, Crystal, for nine wonderful years, and they share their Tempe residence with their rescued dog Harley.

Shortly before graduating high school, Nick started a computer consulting and servicing company, which over the past 13 years has become known across the valley for its fast and high-quality IT products and services.  He dedicates the bulk of his time to growing his company and seeing that customers can continually receive the best available.

While free time is limited due to the nature of self-employment, Nick wastes none of it.  His interests include computers and technology, racquetball, camping and backpacking, bowling, gardening, and working with his hands.

As a long-time libertarian, Nick knows not only the effort required for hard work and personal responsibility, but the benefits that living by this set of principles provides.   He promotes the ideas of a society where the methods of interaction are done by voluntary exchanges to the mutual benefit of all involved, and believes that government's sole purpose is to protect individuals from the initiation of force and fraud.

Statements

I understand that government money is really your money, and I will spend as little of your money as possible so that you can do with it as you wish.

I understand that you are the most qualified person to set your personal goals and live your life, so I won't presume to tell you how to do it.

I understand that the government is not qualified to tell you how to educate your children or care for your health, and I will work to return these choices to you.

I understand that the purpose of our military is for defense, and would authorize their use only in the defense of our country. I would not support wasting American dollars and American lives propping up dictorial governments as we have been doing for at least 50 years.

Congressional Goals

Cleaning up Congress, getting unnecessary government intervention out of our lives, and restoring freedom will certainly take quite some time; and cannot be done by a single person. It will be necessary for like-minded, small-government Americans to be elected to the United States Congress to work together and accomplish goals such as these:

  • To assist in the passage of the Enumerated Powers Act, which would require all bills introduced in Congress include a statement setting forth the specific constitutional authority under which the law is being enacted.
  • To introduce and assist in the passage of the One Subject at a Time Act, which would require that bills introduced in Congress only cover a single subject. Many bills are laden with unrelated spending specifically for the purpose of passing unpopular spending requests by tagging them on to popular legislation. This act would effectively put an end to earmarking and cause the spending request to be voted on independently where it would stand or fall on its own merit.
  • To assist in the passage of the Honest Money Act, which would put an end to legal tender laws, allowing Americans to choose their own currency and not be forced into exchanging Federal Reserve Notes that perpetually decline in value.
  • To repeal the Real ID Act, which places a requirement on the states by the federal government to issue a biometric identification card effectively introducing a National ID card to the US. This act will impose a financial burden on the states, invade our privacy, and increase the likelihood of identity theft. Some states have already passed legislation to ban the Real ID from their jurisdiction, and they are to be applauded for their efforts.
While specific goals will change as events unfold, the overall goal will always be to maximize freedom by removing government obstacles in our lives.
